Throughout history women have searched for ways to make their eyes sexier, younger looking, and more appealing. In ancient Egypt, as far back as 3400 BCE, men and women would apply metallic powders on their eyelids as early versions of eye shadow. Egyptians also used a mixture of crocodile dung and honey to line their eyes and deepen their lashes to protect themselves from evil spirits who threatened to climb through their “windows.” Thankfully, crocodiles were not as readily available as was petroleum jelly when in 1840 Eugene Rimmel invented the first packaged make-up for eyelashes, the very famous mascara. If eyes are windows to the soul, what are lashes? Window treatments?
Today there are several promising products not only to make lashes appear longer, but to actually make them grow longer. Some of these products include Latisse, Ageless Lash and Brow, Revitalash, Lash Allure, and LashFood.
LashFood offers an eyelash conditioner, liquid liner and mascara to stimulate lashes 24 hours a day. LashFood and Lash Allure advertise as natural, drug-free products with proteins and peptides. They are non-irritating and are a good option for women who might be sensitive to chemical-based products. Ageless Lash and Brow offers additional solutions to thinning eyebrows, and Revitalash is used on both upper and lower lashes.
Latisse is a liquid eyelash conditioner which is carefully applied nightly to the upper lash line. It all started with patients suffering from a pathology called glaucoma. The prescription eye drops used to treat these patients had a side effect: eyelash lengthening. Bimatoprost (Lumigan), a prostamide analogue found in Latisse offers proven results. After clinical trials, 78% of participants who used the product noticed longer, darker, thicker eyelashes. A side effect is eyelid darkening. Latisse was marketed and is the only FDA approved treatment to grow upper lashes.
Whatever your reasons may be for growing beautiful eyelashes, make sure you research the products well before use and spend your money wisely. More importantly, remember that the batting of your any-size lashes at the right guy will have long lasting effects of the love kind.
